THE VOID
A void is the beginning place or surface of the artistic process. It's an empty space where elements and opposites do not yet exist. A void has not yet been assigned a purpose, message, idea or intention by the artist.
A painter might begin with a blank canvas, a choreographer would use an empty stage. To an architect, the void is an empty lot, to a sculptor the void is empty 3-d space. A writer would begin on a blank piece of paper or computer screen, a musician would begin with silence. The void is the place where art begins to take it's unique appearance as the elements of art are carefully arranged and composed within it's chosen dimensions. |
