MOTION
Linear motion is walking in a straight line. Reflection is a type of linear motion.
Reciprocating motion is when a weight lifter lifts weights up and down repeatedly. Rotary motion is when a person does a cartwheel. Rotation is another word for movement around a center point. Oscillating motion is when a person's leg swings back and forth to kick a football. Intermittent motion is like when a person blinks every few seconds. Irregular motion is when a person's hair moves randomly as the wind blows through it. Motion can also involve the increase and decrease in size of an element, like when a person increases in size as he/she walks towards the viewer. Squash and stretch is a technique used by animators to create the illusion of gravity and mass. The original volume of the object must be retained while squashing and stretching. Motion is a major part of animation, film-making, dance, theater, kinetic sculpture, etc. |
The guy to the left walking through the desert is demonstrating many different types of motion at once. He moves forward in a linear fashion. His arms and legs are oscillating and reciprocating back and forth. His hair is lagging behind and tossing in the wind in an irregular fashion. His eye's might be blinking showing intermittent motion. His body is squashing and stretching as he walks to suggest gravity and mass. And lastly, the background image is moving according to principles of linear perspective, scenery in the far back ground is moving slower than scenery in the middle ground and foreground.
