LINE
Line represents the 1st dimension in theory, but in application looks a lot like thin, stretched out shapes. Line is the most basic and primary element of art. It can be used to create or imply almost every other element.
Line is expressive. It can represent various emotions and ideas by how the artist uses it in space. Artists will often use lines to represent the edges of 3-d objects. These types of lines are referred to as contour lines, and are very important when transferring 3-d reality to a 2-d surface. |
