SPACE
Space must be accompanied by at least one element. This is why, in theory, a void has no space. By definition there is nothing, not even the element of space in a void.
Space comes in two parts: the space within elements is called positive space and the space around elements is called negative space. Space comes in 4 different dimensions. When space is accompanied by line it is 1-dimensional. When accompanied by shape it has 2 dimensions. With form it has 3 dimensions, and with motion it has 4 dimensions. Space should be just as much a consideration as its accompanying element when creating compositions. It's important to make the negative spaces as interesting as the positive spaces. |
